Kimberley Mineral Sands extends senior loan waivers until December, progresses talks for long-term Standstill Agreement.

Sheffield Resources Limited (ASX: SFX) has provided an update regarding the senior loan facilities for the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Mine in Western Australia, operated by Kimberley Mineral Sands (KMS). Sheffield Resources Limited is focused on assembling a portfolio of global mineral sands development and production assets to generate cash returns and growth, with its core asset being a 50% investment in KMS, owner of the world-class Thunderbird Mineral Sands Mine. The company announced that KMS, along with its primary lenders Sheng Feng (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd and the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF), have agreed to a further waiver and deferral arrangement.

This latest agreement extends the interest and principal repayment obligations, originally due between December 2025 and September 2026, along with various associated covenant waivers, until 18 December 2026. This extension provides additional time for ongoing discussions between KMS, Sheng Feng, and NAIF concerning a potential debt restructure for the Thunderbird Mine. The parties have made significant progress during October on agreeing the principles of a Standstill Agreement.

The proposed Standstill Agreement aims to defer KMS’s debt obligations until 30 June 2027. This deferral is intended to allow for the stabilisation of recent improvements in operational performance and production at Thunderbird, thereby supporting subsequent negotiations for a comprehensive debt restructure. Sheffield confirmed that the short-term deferral to 18 December 2026 was specifically granted to facilitate the finalisation and execution of this Standstill Agreement. Sheffield and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd, a wholly owned Australian subsidiary of Yansteel, continue to serve as sponsors and guarantors to the senior secured loan facilities, with Sheffield committed to keeping the market informed of future material developments.
