The Australian sharemarket gained some ground following a big tumble on Tuesday. Woolworths (WOW) fell short of its quarterly sales expectations and slumped by close to 2% on the local market.

A quiet start to a busy week with FOMC and Bank results to come, starting Thursday. The market shrugged off the negative overseas leads as talk was all banks and how much they are going to reward shareholders. Disappointment looms I suspect, but the market is getting frothed at the mouth in anticipation of more records falling, so who am I to question it.

At The Close: Stocks Consolidate At Near 6-Year Highs

Banks once again solid. Resmed strong result. Qld motorway sale and nice numbers for Altas Iron.

The Dow closed down 12 points while the S&P lost 0.2% to 1875 as the Nasdaq fell 0.8%.

Local stocks rose for the 6th day, with the All Ordinaries Index trading close to a 6-year high. Volume was healthy due to equity options expiry yesterday, which tends to boost volume.
