Gibb River Diamonds Limited (ASX: GIB), a minerals exploration company, announced a significant strategic shift during its Annual General Meeting held on 3 November 2026. The company, which has historically focused on diamond projects, is now pivoting towards gold sector acquisitions. To reflect this new direction, the company proposes to rename itself GIB Mining Limited, while retaining its familiar ‘GIB’ ASX code for continuity. This strategic realignment aims to better position the company for future growth within the gold sector.
Executive Chairman Jim Richards highlighted the company’s robust financial standing, which underpins its acquisition strategy. As of 30 September 2026, GIB boasted a strong cash position of $6.35 million with no debt, complemented by a tight capital structure of 214,509,445 shares-on-issue. The Board believes these financials place GIB in an excellent position to pursue quality new projects, with a particular emphasis on the West Australian gold sector.
The company has dedicated considerable time in the past quarter to reviewing and visiting potential acquisition opportunities. This disciplined process aims to secure projects that offer both optimal value and a strong technical and corporate fit for GIB. Favourable market conditions, including high gold prices realised from the Neta Mining JV earlier in the financial year, contributed to a $7 million payment to GIB in March. The current significantly lower gold price environment is expected to further assist the company in its pursuit of new gold project acquisitions. GIB possesses strong geological, commercial, technical, and permitting expertise, coupled with prudent financial management, enabling timely acquisition and development of new ventures.
