Cynata Therapeutics Limited (ASX: CYP), a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing innovative stem cell therapies using its proprietary Cymerus™ platform, has released its preliminary final report for the year ended 30 June 2026. The company reported a net loss of $9,089,281, a slight reduction from the previous year’s $9,390,586. However, revenue from ordinary activities declined by 15.23% to $1,791,103 from $2,112,839 in 2025.
The report highlighted outcomes from recent clinical trials for its lead candidates. The Phase 2 trial of CYP-001 for high-risk acute graft versus host disease (HR-aGvHD) found no safety concerns but also no significant differences in primary or key secondary efficacy endpoints between groups. Similarly, the Phase 3 trial of CYP-004 in osteoarthritis revealed no statistically significant differences between active and control groups in co-primary endpoints related to pain reduction and cartilage thickness, despite a secondary endpoint showing substantial knee pain reduction.
Cynata’s financial position saw a dramatic shift, with cash and cash equivalents plummeting to $897,418 at 30 June 2026 from $5,049,744 previously. Net operating cash outflows were $6,735,676, and the company moved from net assets to net liabilities of $394,240. The preliminary report, currently undergoing audit, anticipates an ‘Emphasis of Matter’ from the auditor regarding a material uncertainty about the Group’s ability to continue as a going concern. Subsequent to year-end, the company initiated significant cost-cutting, including making all employee positions redundant, waiving board fees, and securing a $600,000 R&D Tax Incentive loan against an anticipated $1.7 million rebate. The company noted its future strategy relies on careful resource management and securing additional funding.
