Visible laser specialist expands pipeline, secures Indian government contract, enhances laser performance

BluGlass (ASX: BLG), a specialist in visible lasers, is poised to expand its global earnings with a growing pipeline of revenue opportunities valued at over $154 million. Headquartered in Sydney, the company highlighted international progress in its June 2025 quarterly report, including its first order from the Indian government after being approved as a visible laser supplier. BluGlass develops and manufactures laser diodes using its unique low temperature, low hydrogen, remote plasma chemical vapour deposition (RPCVD) technology. These advanced lasers cater to several industries including defence, biotechnology, and manufacturing.

In early June, BluGlass secured a $230,000 contract from the Indian Ministry of Defence to develop gallium nitride (GaN) laser diodes. This entails benchmarking the fabrication process of GaN-based lasers for the Solid State Physics Laboratory, a research institution focused on advanced semiconductor materials. CEO Jim Haden noted that the company’s expanding relationships with governments and industry leaders underscore the increasing global demand for visible lasers.

Technological advancements were also a key highlight of the quarter. BluGlass achieved a 16% increase in multi-mode power conversion efficiency (PCE) in its GaN lasers, bringing the company close to its FY26 target ahead of schedule. According to Mr. Haden, this improvement aligns BluGlass with major competitors in the field. The company also reported success in extending its wavelength capabilities and improving its single-frequency distributed feedback laser.

BluGlass successfully completed a $7.6 million placement to accelerate laser production and support further technological developments. Quarterly revenue reached $1.8 million, driven by the NCSU CLAWS Hub contract, growing laser product sales, and foundry services for a European wafer developer. The company invested $2.65 million in research and development during the period, as it continues to make headway in the visible laser market.
