Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG), an Australian mineral exploration company focused on discovering significant nickel-copper and gold deposits, announced on 4 November 2026 that aircore drilling has commenced at the Pyrophyllite Hill prospect, part of its Pinnacle Well Project. Located approximately 25 kilometres north-northeast of Leonora in Western Australia, the initial programme comprises 50 holes for an estimated 2,500 metres. This drilling represents the first activity at the project since 2006, marking a significant step in the company’s exploration efforts in the region.
The current aircore drilling programme is designed to test a one-kilometre by 500-metre area, focusing on a compelling multi-feature induced polarisation (IP) anomaly, the pyrophyllite alteration zone, and a hydrothermal soil anomaly. Legend Executive Chair, Mark Wilson, expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are very pleased to have the rods turning at Pinnacle Well. These will be the first drill holes at the project since 2006, and will focus on a compelling multi feature IP anomaly at Pyrophyllite Hill. The geology and geochemistry data from this round of drilling will be vital inputs into planning the follow up RC programme.”
Pyrophyllite Hill is considered prospective for both intrusion-related and structurally controlled gold mineralisation. This prospectivity is supported by several key indicators, including an extensive pyrophyllite alteration zone, a strong 600-metre strike length chargeable-resistive PDIP feature, and elevated gold results from rockchip samples. Further evidence includes hydrothermal-associated multielement Ultra Fine Fraction (UFF) soil anomalism and the prospect’s proximity to NW-SE trending structures related to the Keith-Kilkenny Fault Zone. The geological knowledge and assay results obtained from this aircore drilling will directly inform the planning of a follow-up reverse circulation (RC) drilling programme.
This initial aircore drilling is expected to take 10-15 days, after which Legend will assess the geology and multielement assays. These findings will then be used to plan further RC drilling at both Pyrophyllite Hill and the Alpha North prospect, targeting previously identified PDIP features and any anomalous results from the current programme. The Pinnacle Well Project covers a combined area of 128 square kilometres and is considered prospective for gold and base metals.
