Rural Funds Group (ASX: RFF) has progressed its strategy to strengthen the portfolio and reduce gearing, with recent asset sales completed at an average premium to prior book values. James Powell, Investor Relations, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rural Funds Management, says the divestments have contributed to higher earnings and net asset value while bringing gearing back within the fund’s target range.
In this interview, James discusses the Rewan property as an example of RFM’s approach to creating value through productivity improvements, leasing and active asset management. He also provides an update on development activity at Rookwood Farms and Kaiuroo, and explains how technologies including AI and autonomous machinery are supporting productivity and environmental outcomes across agricultural operations.
Looking ahead, James outlines RFF’s approach to balancing higher-growth natural resource assets with infrastructure assets offering potentially higher income, as the fund considers further asset sales to create capacity for future acquisitions while maintaining its FY27 distribution forecast.
