Krakatoa Resources Limited (ASX: KTA) today announced the commencement of a second drill rig at its Zopkhito Antimony-Gold Project in Georgia, significantly accelerating its 2026 exploration program. Krakatoa Resources is an Australian mineral exploration company focused on discovering and developing high-value mineral deposits. This strategic move aims to expedite the preparation of a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the project, which holds a foreign resource estimate of 225 kilotonnes at 11.6% antimony and 7.1 million tonnes at 3.7 grams per tonne gold.
The additional rig will focus on defining antimony and gold mineralisation situated between and below historical adits, leveraging the project’s extensive legacy exploration, which includes over 20 kilometres of underground adits and more than 30,000 previous channel and geochemical samples. Krakatoa CEO, Mark Major, commented on the development, stating, “Having a second drill rig operating on-site is a positive step in advancing the project into the next stage in a timely manner. Operating in tandem, the two rigs along with underground core and channel sampling will be invaluable in advancing our efforts to modernise the historical foreign resource to a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource.”
Mr. Major further detailed the company’s strategy to systematically test mineralised zones where both Soviet-era and recent sampling have highlighted high-grade antimony and gold. This approach aims to validate historical work and deepen the understanding of the broader gold alteration system and quartz-antimony vein development. Furthermore, Krakatoa is actively collecting bulk samples to commence metallurgical optimisation testwork, including ore sorting evaluation and further flotation studies for antimony and gold recovery. Environmental baseline studies and permitting activities are also progressing in parallel, supporting the project’s future advancement. Krakatoa holds an exclusive option to acquire up to an 80% interest in the Zopkhito Project.
