Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence company, has reportedly pushed back the timeline for its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO). The move delays what some investors believe could be a colossal US$2 trillion (A$2.8 trillion) listing, poised to be one of the largest market debuts ever and a significant gauge of investor interest in the booming AI sector. The company develops advanced AI technologies and services, operating at the forefront of this rapidly evolving industry.
Initially, the AI firm’s IPO prospectus was expected to be made public as early as next week, a critical step towards commencing the final stages of the offering. However, sources familiar with the matter, who cautioned that plans are subject to change, now indicate this crucial release is not anticipated until late September. Consequently, the marketing of the IPO is expected to begin in mid-October at the earliest, with completion projected days before the US midterm elections in November. Companies frequently adjust their IPO schedules due to market conditions, regulatory reviews, and other preparatory work, making such changes not uncommon.
As part of its market debut preparations, Anthropic intends to finalise a US$15 billion revolving credit facility. Following this, analysts from banks involved in the financing are expected to meet with the company. Investment banking giants Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Citi are among the financial institutions reportedly working with Anthropic on the listing. The offering is one of the most closely watched IPOs in recent memory, as global investors seek exposure to the burgeoning artificial intelligence industry, potentially alongside other AI companies like OpenAI. Elon Musk’s SpaceX also made a significant market entry in June with a record US$1.77 trillion valuation.
