ADX Energy Ltd (ASX:ADX) announced on 13 August 2026 the impending resumption of production testing at its HOCH-1 shallow gas exploration well in Upper Austria. ADX Energy is an oil and gas exploration and production company with interests in energy projects across Europe and Africa, focusing on identifying and developing hydrocarbon resources. The HOCH-1 well, within the ADX-AT-I exploration licence where ADX holds a 50% economic interest, was drilled, cased, and completed after encountering up to eight biogenic gas reservoirs across two formations.
Testing of HOCH-1 is being conducted in two phases. Phase 1, already underway, saw the initial Hall zone produce water-free gas at a stable average flow rate of 2.7 MMCFPD (450 BOEPD) over 11 hours. Pressure build-up analysis indicated excellent reservoir productivity with a potential flow rate of 3.5 MMCFPD (580 BOEPD) and a sand extent of at least 600 metres. Further testing was delayed due to logistical restrictions, but additional gas zones are now scheduled for testing during the week commencing 24 August. The remaining Phase 1 program will test a Hall sand and a Hall Channel sand together.
Post-drill mapping, utilising recently reprocessed 3D seismic data, has indicated a potentially large lateral extension of several sand bodies within the Hall Channel sands intersected in HOCH-1. This mapping, correlated with nearby wells, suggests significant stratigraphic trap areas. ADX Executive Chairman, Mr Ian Tchacos, highlighted that current results are encouraging, showing excellent productivity and lateral continuity. He added that the yet-to-be-tested Hall Channel sand system is highly prospective, with similar deep marine sands in the area previously yielding significant gas discoveries. Phase 2 testing will target at least two deeper Hall Channel sand zones.
