HyTerra Identifies High Hydrogen Concentrations in Kansas

Initial drilling at Nemaha project yields up to 96.1% hydrogen concentrations.

HyTerra (ASX: HYT), the first ASX-listed explorer dedicated to natural hydrogen, reported significant hydrogen concentrations at its Nemaha project in Kansas. Drilling of the Sue Duroche 3 well, funded by a $21.9 million investment from Fortescue Future Industries Technologies, revealed hydrogen concentrations up to 96.1%, validating historical data from the region. The Sue Duroche 3 well reached a total depth of approximately 1,052 meters. Schlumberger conducted an extensive formation evaluation, with laboratory analysis confirming the high hydrogen levels from mud gas samples. Elevated helium readings were also recorded during drilling into the Precambrian basement.

Nemaha’s location in a major industrial hub between Kansas City and Wichita offers access to railways, roads, and pipelines, facilitating connections to potential offtakers like ethanol, ammonia, and petrochemical plants. HyTerra chose the leases due to historical data showing hydrogen and helium occurrences, with some wells recording up to 92% hydrogen and 3% helium. Following the success of Sue Duroche 3, HyTerra will move to the Blythe 13-20 well location next week. Executive Director Benjamin Mee called the findings a “great start” and emphasized the company’s commitment to exploring new techniques to unlock natural hydrogen potential.
