Amazon, Alphabet Headline Peak Week Of US Earnings

The first peak week of the US third-quarter earnings season starts tonight, our time with 160 S&P 500 companies due to report over the next five days with tech giants and megatechs to again be the most influential reporters.

Thursday looks like the most crucial day with quarterly reports due from Amazon, Alphabet (Google), Twitter, Snap and Intel. Microsoft reports on Wednesday.

After Netflix’s strong third quarter reports last week, there seems to be a bit more confidence around the so-called FANG stocks (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Alphabet, Google). Apple reports November 1, Facebook on October 30.

Besides these giants, other companies reporting include 3M, AT&T, Comcast, Mattel, Ford, Colgate-Palmolive, Merck, Visa, Hasbro, McDonald’s, Chipotle, United Technologies, Caterpillar, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, UPS, Verizon, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, KKR, Conoco Phillips, Newmont Mining, Freeport and The Hershey Company.

Next week’s reports will mean just on half the S&P 500 will have reported by Friday – with three of the FANGs, plus Microsoft, four major airlines, several drug giants, a couple of major media players, most big banks and financials and big manufacturers.

By then we should have a good idea of earnings and sales growth, the impact of lower taxes and the damage being done from the higher dollar and Trump’s tariffs.
