Money manager announces key leadership changes and new investment committee for its $23 billion funds.

Regal Partners, a prominent $23 billion money manager, has unveiled significant leadership changes as it prepares for the departure of co-founder and market veteran Phil King in June 2027. The firm, which manages a diverse range of funds for its investors, announced new lead managers across eight of its portfolios and established a new investment committee. This strategic restructuring ensures a smooth transition of responsibilities ahead of King’s scheduled exit.

In an email to investors, Regal confirmed that Mark Nathan, Zachary Corones, and Jovita Khilnani would assume critical fund management roles. Nathan, previously appointed co-head of long-short equities alongside Corones, will take over from King as lead portfolio manager for the Regal Atlantic Absolute Return Fund and the Tasman Market Neutral Fund. He will also share responsibility for Regal’s flagship Australian Long Short Equity Fund with Khilnani, recently promoted to head of equity research. Hong Kong-based Corones is now lead portfolio manager of Regal’s Tactical Opportunities Fund, while Jackson Aldridge will oversee the Australian Small Companies Fund. Tim Elliott retains responsibility for the Resources Long Short and Resources High Conviction funds, Jessica Farr-Jones will lead the Global Small Companies Fund, and Ben McCallum will manage the Emerging Companies Opportunities Fund. King will remain involved in portfolio management until his departure.

Regal Partners clarified it opted against appointing a new chief investment officer, instead distributing responsibilities among its senior fund managers. This decision recognises their deep investment experience; Nathan and Corones bring over 40 years collectively, and Khilnani has contributed significantly over 12 years. The newly formed investment committee, effective Monday, will play a crucial role in reviewing underperforming strategies and determining actions such as risk reduction, restructuring, or liquidation of investments, ensuring robust oversight of the firm’s portfolios.
