Canadian Phosphate Limited (ASX: CP8) has announced promising initial results from its 2026 diamond drilling program at the Wapiti Phosphate Project in British Columbia, Canada. The company is engaged in the exploration and development of phosphate resources, crucial for agricultural fertilisers and various industrial applications. The first eight drillholes, totalling 1,051 metres, have successfully intersected the targeted Phosphate Main Zone (“Main Zone”) and visually confirmed significant phosphatic mineralisation, extending its known strike length by more than three kilometres south of the nearest historical drillhole.
These initial eight drillholes represent approximately one-third of the planned 3,000-metre program, with drilling scheduled for completion in September. Samples from the completed holes have been dispatched to AGAT Laboratories for analysis, and Canadian Phosphate anticipates receiving initial assay results during the September quarter. Daniel Gleeson, CP8 Managing Director, stated that the Wapiti Project continues to exhibit characteristics of a large-scale sedimentary phosphate opportunity, with early visual observations and preliminary pXRF results supporting the continuation of phosphate mineralisation.
The geological logging from the first eight holes identified phosphatic intervals consistent with historical exploration data, confirming the continuity of the target horizon. Looking ahead, Canadian Phosphate intends to utilise the 2026 exploration data to advance preparations for an updated Mineral Resource Estimate for Wapiti in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2026. Concurrently, the company will continue its metallurgical studies to support both fertiliser and purified phosphoric acid development pathways. The company noted that visual identification and preliminary results are not a substitute for laboratory analysis, with true widths still being evaluated.
