Bayan Mining and Minerals (ASX: BMM) has joined the rush to secure rare earth element (REE) opportunities in the United States, staking applications for 72 federal lode claims. The claims cover approximately 6 square kilometres in California’s Mojave Desert, a highly prospective REE district. Bayan Mining and Minerals is an Australian company focused on exploration and development opportunities. It aims to create shareholder value through strategic investments in the resources sector.
The company’s new Desert Star project is notably located just 4.5 km north-east of the Mountain Pass mine, the only active REE mining and processing facility in the US. According to executive director Fadi Diab, the Desert Star project represents a significant milestone for Bayan, expanding its footprint into a world-class rare earth district. Initial studies suggest encouraging geological and geophysical indicators, with potential for gold and antimony discoveries as well.
To support exploration activities across its projects, including Desert Star, Bayan has raised $250,000 through binding commitments from sophisticated and professional investors. Planned activities include field work, sampling, geological mapping, and permitting of the new claims. Once the claims are successfully registered, Bayan intends to conduct a comprehensive technical review of the project.
The review’s initial phase will involve thorough data analysis and the creation of a targeted reconnaissance mapping and geochemical sampling program, slated to commence in the coming weeks. Bayan’s claim staking aligns with the US government’s efforts to boost domestic REE production, reduce reliance on China, and secure supply chains for national security and technological advancement.
