Steel giant names internal candidate to succeed Mark Vassella in February

BlueScope, Australia’s largest steelmaker, has announced Tania Archibald as its new chief executive officer. She will succeed Mark Vassella, who is stepping down in February after serving eight years in the role. BlueScope is a leading international manufacturer of steel products and solutions, serving the building and construction industries. The company operates globally, with manufacturing facilities across Asia, North America, and the Pacific region.

Archibald currently holds the position of chief executive of BlueScope’s Australian steel products business. She brings extensive experience to the role, including a previous tenure as chief financial officer. Her appointment signals a focus on internal talent and continuity within the company’s leadership.

BlueScope chairwoman Jane McAloon praised Archibald as a highly capable executive. McAloon highlighted Archibald’s outstanding leadership throughout her 30-year career with BlueScope. The transition is expected to be smooth, with Vassella working alongside Archibald to ensure a seamless handover of responsibilities in the coming months.
