FMR Resources Limited (ASX: FMR), a diversified explorer focused on battery and critical minerals exploration, has announced the finalisation of drill targets and the awarding of the drill contract for the Phase I drilling program at the Southern Porphyry target. This target is part of the Llahuin Project Joint Venture with Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited (ASX: SUH) in Chile. The company’s current Fairfield and Fintry projects are located in Canada, prospective from copper and REE. The Llahuin Project is prospective for copper, gold, and molybdenite.
The drilling contract has been awarded to Big Bear Drilling, a company with experience in directional drilling techniques. This will allow FMR to maximise geological information by completing daughter holes from parent holes, increasing drilling efficiency. Drilling is scheduled to begin in late September 2025, following the receipt of statutory approvals and the completion of site preparation activities.
The Phase I drill program will consist of approximately 4,000 metres of diamond drilling to test four high-priority targets (A–D). These targets were identified using geophysical remodelling, integrating aeromagnetic (MAG), magnetotelluric (MT), and induced polarisation (IP) datasets with surface mapping and re-logging of historical drill holes. The program is designed to provide an initial understanding of the scale and geometry of what is believed to be an extensive copper porphyry system.
Oliver Kiddie, Managing Director of FMR Resources, stated that awarding the drill contract is a significant milestone. He noted that with Big Bear Drilling on board and site preparations advancing, the company is weeks away from drill testing a copper porphyry target in Chile. He added that the use of directional drilling techniques will allow for greater efficiency and precision in testing the system.
