Ore sorting results bolster confidence in Heemskirk Project's economic viability and scalability

Stellar Resources (ASX:SRZ) has announced positive ore sorting trial results, reinforcing the potential of its Heemskirk Tin Project in Tasmania. The company expressed confidence in applying ore sorting at a plant scale, citing the results as a key component of the ongoing Prefeasibility Study. Stellar Resources is an Australian tin-focused company aiming to become a global tin producer via its Heemskirk Project.

The x-ray transmission ore sorting trials demonstrated substantial tin recovery and waste rejection, specifically silica and sulphur. Stellar Resources, with a market capitalisation of $35.35 million, believes the results highlight improved resource utilisation, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced project economics through upfront beneficiation. The news follows Stellar Resources’ presentation at the Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

According to the results, all four samples from the ore sorting trials delivered a 50% mass rejection and an 82.4% tin recovery to the high-grade product stream, with a grade of 1.50% tin, representing a 1.6 times grade uplift. A blended stream further increased tin recovery to 97.2% while achieving a 21.2% mass rejection. The grade in the combined high and medium-grade streams was 1.13% tin, a 1.2 times uplift.

Managing Director Simon Taylor says the trials represent a step forward in de-risking the processing flowsheet for Heemskirk and confirm the scalability of previous test work. ‘The results not only reinforce the strong potential for meaningful uplift in head grade and reduction in costs at Heemskirk but also demonstrate that the well-established technology is applicable to the Queen Hill orebody with commercial scale potential,’ Taylor said.
