Mine to Mobility project seeks to develop low-carbon battery metals supply chain

Kuniko (ASX:KNI) has applied to the Norwegian Green Platform Initiative for its Mine to Mobility project, aimed at developing its Ringerike and Skuterud projects in Norway. The Green Platform Initiative, administered by the Research Council of Norway in conjunction with Innovation Norway and Siva, supports large-scale industrial research and innovation projects that contribute to the green energy transition. Kuniko is a mineral explorer focused on sourcing critical minerals needed for the energy transition. Its portfolio is considered prospective for copper, nickel, and cobalt.

The Mine to Mobility initiative, led by Kuniko, is a multi-partner research and development project focused on developing Norwegian-sourced, low-carbon nickel, cobalt, and copper for the European e-mobility market. The project is seeking $9 million in funding under the Green Platform, which represents 75% of the total project budget. The remaining costs would be co-funded across the industry consortium. Approval is pending, and no expenditure commitment has been made at this stage.

According to Kuniko, which has a market capitalisation of $8.10 million, the project is a suitable fit because it offers end-to-end solutions for producing battery-grade metals based on Norwegian resources, renewable energy, innovative process technologies, and a significantly lower carbon footprint. If approved, the project will establish a scalable model for the sustainable extraction and processing of critical battery metals. This aligns with the European Union and Norwegian strategies for energy transition and raw materials independence.

CEO Antony Beckmand stated that the application marks a significant step in Kuniko’s ambition to develop a low-carbon, locally sourced battery metals supply chain for Europe. He added that the Mine to Mobility project places Kuniko in a leading role within a unique collaboration that brings together upstream resources, innovative processing technologies, and downstream industrial validation, building on Norway’s clean energy advantage, high ESG standards, and critical mineral potential.
