BTC Health Limited (ASX: BTC), a Pooled Development Fund that actively invests in businesses that acquire, develop, and distribute innovative medical products in Australia and New Zealand, has announced it has secured a $0.5 million order for its Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) equipment from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH) in Adelaide, South Australia. ECMO is a life-support machine that takes over the function of the heart and lungs, providing oxygen to the blood and removing carbon dioxide. The company is building a group of high-growth businesses that focus on providing access to specialised therapeutics and medical devices.
The purchase order encompasses the ECMO equipment itself and the first year of single-use consumables. According to BTC Health, securing this account marks a significant milestone, as the Women’s and Children’s Hospital joins the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne as part of an expanding ECMO network. The company also anticipates generating approximately $100,000 per annum in revenue from the supply of ECMO consumables to the Adelaide hospital.
The placement of this equipment will facilitate a dedicated patient retrieval service between Adelaide and Melbourne. BTC Health anticipates this will strengthen collaboration between the hospitals and improve outcomes for critically ill paediatric patients requiring ECMO support. The Women’s and Children’s Hospital is also expected to extend its ECMO services to include inpatients in the near future.
Dr. Richard Treagus, Executive Chairman of BTC Health, stated that this order is an important step in expanding the company’s presence in the ECMO market. He added that the establishment of a second ECMO centre highlights growing confidence in BTC Health’s technology and their commitment to supporting life-saving retrieval services across Australia, creating a strong platform for expansion into additional Australian hospitals.
