Secures three new licences, increasing landholding to 5,901 square kilometres

DY6 Metals (ASX:DY6) has increased its footprint in central Cameroon, securing three additional exploration licences at its Central Rutile Project. The new licences – Biyan, Long, and Ayene – boost the company’s total landholding in the region to 5,901 square kilometres. DY6 Metals is a diversified mineral explorer focused on discovering natural rutile and heavy mineral sands, with two projects in Cameroon, West Africa.

The newly acquired Biyan licence is contiguous to the existing Nganda and Bounde permits. The Nlong licence is immediately west of the Alamba and Nsimbo permits, and the Ayene licence is southwest of the Weaver group of licences. These areas are considered highly prospective for rutile and heavy mineral sands, bolstering the potential of the Central Rutile Project. The Central Rutile Project now comprises 14 exploration permits, predominantly underlain by kyanite-bearing mica schist bedrock which is considered the primary source of rutile.

DY6 Metals, which has a market capitalisation of $24.14 million, plans to extend its systematic soil sampling program to the newly licenced areas. CEO Cliff Fitzhenry stated the company had acted swiftly in securing additional ground in what is viewed as an “emerging globally significant rutile province”. Fitzhenry added that the company is eager to further expand its footprint at the Central Rutile Project, citing the right underlying geology, a deep in-situ weathering profile, and strategic location for prospective residual natural rutile deposits.

Rutile is the most abundant of three naturally occurring forms of titanium dioxide, used in pigments for paints, plastics, and paper, as well as in cosmetics, sunscreens, ceramics, glass, and welding electrodes.
