FireFly Metals (ASX: FFM) has announced promising results from its in-fill drilling program at the Green Bay copper-gold project in Canada. The company’s drilling campaign aims to expand the project’s mineralisation, upgrade the mineral resource classification, and discover new deposits. FireFly Metals focuses on exploration and development of copper and gold projects. The company is dedicated to creating value for shareholders through strategic acquisitions and efficient project management.
Currently, six diamond rigs are stationed at the Ming underground mine, exploring volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) lenses. Additionally, two surface rigs are testing anomalies identified through airborne geophysical surveys. FireFly Metals believes the latest results demonstrate continuous mineralisation within the current Green Bay mineral resource estimate, which stands at 24.4 million tonnes at 1.9% for 460,000 tonnes measured and indicated copper equivalent and 34.5 million tonnes at 2% for 690,000 tonnes inferred.
Key assay results from drilling the VMS lenses included significant intercepts such as 11.6 metres at 9.3% copper equivalent (6.0% copper and 3.9g/t gold), 5.5m at 7.1% copper equivalent (5.4% copper and 2g/t gold), and 14.6m at 6.7% copper equivalent (5.4% copper and 1.5g/t gold). The Ming’s Footwall Stringer Zone also showed consistent copper mineralisation, suggesting potential for large-scale bulk mining. Highlights included 9.5m at 6.4% copper equivalent (6.1% copper and 0.4g/t gold) followed by a further zone of 24.9m at 2.4% copper equivalent (2.2% copper and 0.1g/t gold), 26.2m at 5.3% copper equivalent (4.9% copper and 0.4g/t gold) and 24.1m at 3.7% copper equivalent (3.5% copper and 0.3g/t gold).
Steve Parsons, FireFly’s managing director, anticipates substantial growth in the measured and indicated resource categories, which will underpin engineering studies for the resumption of upscaled production from the Ming mine. The company aims to expand the resource at Green Bay, upgrade its classification, and incorporate this data into mining and feasibility studies. Firefly Metals acquired the Green Bay project in late 2023 and has since completed 99,700m of underground diamond drilling.
