ASX-listed company secures $1.55 million agreement with major Philippines telco

SportsHero (ASX: SHO), the social sports platform operator, has broadened its reach in Southeast Asia by signing a $1.55 million agreement with PLDT, a major telecommunications provider in the Philippines. SportsHero operates a platform that connects sports enthusiasts through various games and challenges. Headquartered in Singapore, the company already maintains a strong presence in Indonesia with its Olahbola platform and partnerships with firms like XL Axiata and iGV.com.

PLDT Home holds a significant 50.6% share of the Philippines industry revenues and caters to approximately half of the total fibre-to-the-home industry customers, serving 3.2 million users as of the end of 2023. The two-year agreement will see SportsHero distribute the iGV Family Game Pass product throughout the Philippines, supported by direct carrier billing and ongoing marketing initiatives. PLDT plans to bundle a 12-month iGV Game Pass subscription for its premium home broadband customers and offer exclusive extension options for subscription renewals.

SportsHero chief executive officer Tom Lapping highlighted additional revenue prospects across PLDT’s broader existing and new customer base, in addition to the premium product opportunity. The revenue from these opportunities will be split 65% to SportsHero and 35% to PLDT. According to Mr. Lapping, the PLDT agreement marks a significant step for SportsHero in the Southeast Asian gaming market, securing another leading telco partner in a new country.

“The Philippines is estimated to have 43 million PC gamers, which is our primary target customer—securing the $1.55m contract value over the first 12 months helps to underpin the company’s growth both in the Philippines and the rest of the region,” Mr Lapping said.
