Collaboration aims to establish Australia's sovereign gallium supply chain, reducing reliance on China.

RareX (ASX:REE) has entered into a strategic collaboration with Gega Elements, an Australian technology company specializing in gallium extraction. The partnership focuses on developing a fully integrated gallium supply chain, leveraging RareX’s gallium-bearing samples from the Cummins Range and Khaleesi Projects and Gega’s advanced refining technologies. Gega Elements is developing next-generation gallium refining solutions based on proprietary materials science, aiming for a cost-effective and environmentally responsible process.

The three-year agreement involves Gega testing and refining its technology using RareX’s samples. If successful, the parties will negotiate a binding agreement covering exclusivity, joint development, and commercial rights related to collaboration IP. RareX will have the option to secure exclusive rights to any gallium refining intellectual property developed using its project data. Managing Director James Durrant highlights the partnership’s potential to position RareX as a significant gallium development outside of China, addressing the critical need for this material in semiconductors, 5G, and defense industries. The collaboration aligns with Australian industrial policy and global demand trends, contributing to a more secure and diversified critical mineral supply chain.
