American Rare Earths (ASX:ARR) has reached a milestone at its Cowboy State Mine, part of the Halleck Creek Rare Earths Project in Wyoming, with the installation of groundwater monitoring wells. This is a crucial step in the environmental permitting process required by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ). The company will conduct quarterly groundwater sampling and analysis over a 12-month period, including 24-hour pump tests, to support groundwater modeling. A formal mine permit application is anticipated to be submitted concurrently with this data collection.
The Cowboy State Mine Prefeasibility Study (PFS) is on track for completion in late 2025. CEO Chris Gibbs emphasized the significance of this progress, highlighting the project’s location on state-managed land, which offers a more streamlined permitting process compared to federal lands. The groundwater monitoring will generate essential hydrological and environmental baseline data to inform mine planning. American Rare Earths aims for initial production as early as 2029. The Halleck Creek Project is positioned as a key contributor to securing America’s critical mineral independence, leveraging cost-efficient open-pit mining methods.
