Former corporate finance head steps into CFO role, effective immediately.

Contact Energy (ASX:CEN), a major energy generator and retailer in New Zealand, has announced the appointment of Matt Forbes as its Chief Financial Officer. This decision follows an extensive recruitment process, both locally and internationally. Forbes previously held the position of head of corporate finance at Contact and has been acting CFO since January 2025, succeeding Dorina Devers, who became Chief Development and Major Projects Officer. According to CEO Mike Fuge, Forbes’s strategic capability, financial leadership, stakeholder relationships, and understanding of the energy sector were key factors in his selection.

Fuge emphasized the importance of Forbes’s role in Contact Energy’s vision to lead New Zealand’s decarbonization and energy transition. Forbes has been with Contact Energy for 15 years, contributing to capital raising, the Contact 26 strategy, and the Manawa acquisition. Contact Energy operates 11 power stations utilizing geothermal, hydro, and thermal energy. The company has invested $2.3 billion in renewable energy projects over the past four years, including geothermal power stations, a grid-scale battery, and a solar farm.
