XR and AI technology to boost efficiency, cut waste in food production.

Vection Technologies (ASX: VR1) has been chosen to supply the extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI) backbone for Project ADDICTA, a program designed to revolutionize the global food and beverage industry. This $1.2 million research initiative, funded by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, will be executed by Vection entities including JMC Group, Vection Italy, Mindesk, The Digital Box, and Nature Med.

Project ADDICTA aims to improve factory digitalization, reduce waste, and increase efficiency using advanced sensors and Vection’s INTEGRATEDXR stack to provide real-time product intelligence. The eight-month project will implement 3DFrame digital twins, EnWorks IoT middleware, and Algho AI to convert raw sensor data into visual and conversational insights. The project will focus on creating the first in-line quality digital twin for liquorice, beer, and pasta dough, detecting contaminants and colour in real time.

According to Vection, approximately 62% of the project’s funding will cover development expenses, enabling the creation of new intellectual property and a reference site without any cash outlay. Nature Med will utilize the remaining 38% to host and validate the pilot line. Vection anticipates billing around 20% of the project value as revenue in fiscal year 2025, with the remaining revenue recognized as milestones are achieved. Vection’s Managing Director Gianmarco Biagi emphasized the project’s significance in showcasing the company’s industry leadership to the food and beverage industry, noting the company’s unique ability to manage the entire XR toolchain internally.
