Western Australia's ZEV rebate ends May 10, boosting EV adoption significantly.

Western Australia’s Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) rebate scheme, designed to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, is scheduled to close on May 10, 2025. Introduced as part of the Clean Energy Car Fund in the 2022-23 state budget, the scheme offers a $3,500 rebate to eligible vehicle purchasers who apply to the Department of Transport. The incentive has proven highly successful, driving a substantial increase in EV registrations across the state. Licensing data reveals a remarkable 692% surge in electric vehicle registrations between December 31, 2021, and December 31, 2024, with approximately 25,000 EVs now on Western Australian roads.

The popularity of the ZEV rebate scheme prompted the Roger Cook government to increase its investment by $14.7 million in 2024-25, raising the total funding from the original $36.5 million to $51.2 million. As of March 31, 2025, the scheme had already disbursed $41.53 million across 11,868 applications, with final figures for April still pending. Minister Assisting the Transport Minister Jessica Stojkovski highlighted the scheme’s success in promoting eco-friendly transport options within the community. Potential applicants are urged to submit their applications before the midnight AWST deadline on May 10 to take advantage of the remaining rebates.
