Havilah Resources (ASX: HAV) has completed its drilling program at the Mutooroo copper-cobalt-gold project in South Australia, identifying potential resource extensions and confirming mineralisation within the existing JORC resource envelope. The program, conducted in partnership with JX Advanced Metals Corporation (JXAM), marks a key step in the company’s strategy to expand and develop the project.
Located 60 km southwest of Broken Hill, Mutooroo is a high-grade sulphide deposit containing 195,000 tonnes of copper, 20,200 tonnes of cobalt, and 82,100 ounces of gold.
The drilling campaign, consisting of 35 drillholes totalling 7,511 metres, aimed to collect metallurgical samples and evaluate the northern extension of the Mutooroo deposit. Initial results indicate a substantial resource upside, with mineralised intersections found beyond the current measured resource area.
Key drill results and resource expansion potential
Recent drilling has confirmed significant copper, cobalt, and gold mineralisation north of the existing JORC resource boundary. Notable intercepts include:
- 10 metres at 1.59% copper, 0.14% cobalt, and 0.29 g/t gold from 151 metres (MTRCD283)
- 8 metres at 1.26% copper, 0.13% cobalt, and 0.26 g/t gold from 174.7 metres (MTRCD284)
- 7.2 metres at 1.53% copper, 0.14% cobalt, and 0.43 g/t gold from 228.3 metres (MTRCD285)
These results confirm the presence of high-grade sulphide mineralisation beyond previously defined resource limits, supporting the potential for further expansion.
Advancing towards feasibility and mine development
Havilah and JXAM are progressing metallurgical testing and mining studies, with a focus on optimising extraction and processing methods. The study results will inform an updated mineral resource estimate and contribute to a mining feasibility study, which JXAM has the option to fund as part of its agreement with Havilah.
The company is also planning downhole electromagnetic surveys to identify potential massive sulphide targets beyond current drill coverage. No further drilling is scheduled until all results have been fully evaluated.
