Morning Report: US sharemarkets rose on Friday

Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell provided no timeline on a tapering of asset purchases. And economic data encouraged investors. The Dow Jones index lifted by 243 points or 0.7%. The S&P 500 index gained 0.9% to record highs. And the Nasdaq index lifted by 184 points or 1.2% to record highs. Over the week, the Dow rose by 1%; S&P 500 rose by 1.5%; and the Nasdaq rose by 2.8%.
