Morning Report: US sharemarkets traded lower on Tuesday

Investors mulled the consequences of a drop in retail sales and a lift in producer prices, while the US Federal Reserve holds a 2-day policy meeting. Apple and Microsoft shares both fell 0.6%. But shares of Boeing rose by 0.6% after the US and EU agreed a truce in their 17-year conflict over aircraft subsidies. The Dow Jones index closed down by 94 points or 0.3%. The S&P 500 index lost 0.2% after briefly hitting a record intraday high. And the Nasdaq index was lower by 101 points or 0.7%.
