Morning report: US sharemarkets eased from highs in afternoon trade

The US Capitol Building was breached by supporters of President Trump. The prospect of Democrat victory in the Senate runoff polls in Georgia had earlier boosted prospects for infrastructure dependent stocks. But fears of greater regulation weighed on technology stocks. The Dow Jones rose by 438 points or 1.4% to record highs. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.6%. But the Nasdaq index fell by 78 points or 0.6%.
