AM Report: US sharemarkets were firmer in a shortened trading session on Friday

Reuters summed it up: “The Nasdaq outperformed as investors favored tech-related, market-leading stocks that have fared well during the pandemic, while economically sensitive cyclical stocks weighed.”

The Dow Jones index closed higher by 38 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index rose 0.2% to a record high. And the Nasdaq index rose by 111 points or 0.9% to a fresh record closing high. Over the week, the Dow rose 2.2%; S&P 500 rose 2.3%; and Nasdaq rose 3.0%.
