Gary comments that, “great investment themes have fundamental underpinnings and as such tend to have an inexorable quality about them, stronger for longer”.

“A great investment theme is not enough; the trick is to find the sweet spots in that theme, be it points in an industry chain where rent can be extracted, or specific companies that have experienced self-inflicted wounds and are now recovering, or are just simply underpriced quality.”

The chart below has an interesting perspective on the direction from Gasoline to Electric. This shows the gradual demise of the horse as a mode of transport. As the Battery Electric Vehicles, (BEV), technology gets better and cheaper to run, there will be a gradual transfer from petrol to battery technologies and pertol will ultimately take a similar path to horse in the 19th century. It is a industry to watch closely.
