Origin’s Gas Plant Shut Due To Fire

Origin Energy's (ORG) gas plant had shut down due to a fire in the condensate/gas separation part of the plant on Monday 24 December 2007.

The Beharra Springs gas plant is in Western Australia.

"The fire was successfully extinguished and no personnel were injured as a result of the incident," the company said.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and a full investigation has been initiated.

Origin said that as the operator of the gas plant, it will comply with all regulatory requirements to investigate and remediate the incident.

The damage at the Beharra Springs is localised, and until an integrity assessment is complete ‘it is not known how long it will take to investigate, repair and recommission the plant'.

Origin said it expects the plant to resume operations before the end of January.

Shares in Origin (ORG) were trading down 1 cent at $8.60 at 12.06pm AEST.
